Zero Waste Week

Get ready for Zero Waste Week April 18-22! This is an opportunity for you and your family to join our entire school in minimizing our waste for a whole week! Make a promise to reduce your waste by refusing single-use items and finding alternatives. Some of what you can do can include:

1. Replacing single-use plastic items (such as drink bottles, snack baggies, snack bags, spork packs, etc.) with reusable alternatives
2. Using cloth napkins instead of paper
3. Replacing plastic straws with paper, or consider not using straws
4. Refusing items with microbeads
5. Refusing balloons
6. Using both sides of a paper
7. Step up composting and recycling efforts

Join us in protecting our watershed and ocean for Zero Waste Week as we "Go Green and Think Blue!!!" Our Ocean thanks you for it!

UCSC Life Lab Teacher Training 4/16/16

We had an incredible turn out to the garden training workshop conducted this past Saturday in the Lincoln garden. We owe a big thank you to the professional development trainers from UCSC Life Lab and to Whole Kids Foundation grant for giving us the funds to make it happen. We had 22 educators from Lincoln, other SCESD schools, and outside our district. It was a beautiful day to be in the garden for hands on training on how to use garden based learning practices. Additionally, Lincoln teachers were able to apply for one graduate unit credit through the University of Pacific.  Lincoln HKC will cover the expense ($60) on behalf of teachers that attended the training and applied for the unit.

Here are a few photos from the successful training.

Thank you to all the teachers that took the time out of their very busy lives to attend the training!  We are so excited to see how teachers incorporate garden based practices in their teaching!
